SACRAMENT PREPARATION REGISTRATION FORM 2016-17 SCHOOL YEAR
Sacramental preparation is integral in the continuing faith development of a Catholic Christian. While parents are the primary instructors of the faith, the Church oversees the child’s preparation into full reception into the Catholic Church through regularly scheduled classes. In the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, children in 2nd Grade (or older) are eligible for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion and children in 7th Grade (or older) are eligible for Confirmation. Regardless of the child’s school enrollment (Catholic grade school or not), the local church is the distributor of the Sacrament and is thus responsible for the specific Sacrament preparation.
Second Graders will receive regular instruction and preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (traditionally first received at the Advent Penance Service) in the Fall. In the Winter & Spring, they will receive regular instruction and preparation for the Sacrament of Holy Communion (traditionally first received at the first Sunday in May).
Seventh Graders will receive regular instruction and preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Bishop/Archbishop is the Ordinary minister of the Sacrament; Assumption has traditionally received the Sacrament at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral every year with other parishes sometime in the Easter season.
Anyone who is ‘of the age of reason ’ (older than 11) and is interested in entering the Catholic Church, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC) is the process used. See the RCIA page for more information.
