Child Sponsorship
A way of continuing our Children’s Peace Project

You can sponsor a child for $25.00 a month.

At this critical juncture for the Christian school systems in the Holy Land, many families are finding that they cannot afford to make either all or partial tuition payments; they are having difficulty paying for subsistence level food. Here in the United States, a student who could not pay his or her tuition might be asked to leave a school. This is not the case with Christian schools in the Holy Land. The Christian leadership understands the extreme deprivation that these families face and is attempting to function without the tuition that schools customarily collect. As a result, your contributions go to support the school so that poor families do not have to be turned away. It is humiliating for a family to admit to such a condition.

Other ways we can help:
*Continue to keep the families in your prayers.

*Write to them.

*Encourage others to sponsor a child in Ms. Suhair’s school in Taybeh, Palestine.
(Any questions please Call Sister Marietta, 728-4941.)  You can sponsor a child for $25.00 a month.  Checks should be made out to Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation.

Please remember this about these Christians, who are in a desperate struggle to survive:
They live in an occupied land.
They are not free to come and go as we are.
They do not have jobs (60%-70%)
Christians are only 2%.

Pope John Paul asked the Palestinian Christians to remain in the Holy Land.  Finding food for their families major problem.  This is a twinning/partnership for Assumption Parish with the children in Ms. Suhair’s school.

Sister Marietta, DRE

Monday, January 30, 2006 I spoke with Ms. Suhair about the recent election in Palestine.

- She said they are very nervous with results of the election.

- They do not know what that means for the Christians in the Holy Land.

- Several families in the Taybeh Village School (where Ms. Suhair is Vice-Principal, Raneen and little George attend) received a letter from the Israelis saying they would be taking their land.

- They do not know what new rules they will be required to do (the garbs the women may have to wear, etc.)

- What will happen to the Brewery, that provides jobs for some of the Palestinians (which is right next door to Ms. Suhair’s home).

Suhair asked for your prayers for their country that things might be peaceful for all who are involved.

Many of the pictures you saw on TV with Hamas marching with guns and green flags were right outside a store that Suhair’s brother owns. Her Mother, Dad, brothers and sisters live in Ramallah.

PLEASE KEEP THEM IN YOUR PRAYERS.

Can you imagine having a wall 30 feet high and 400 miles long?

A wall keeping you from ...

• going to work

• going to the hospital for emergency care

• going to visit your family members
( parents, others) or close friends

• going to visit places where Jesus walked and talked ( so close )

• going to significant places for your family

This wall is what our Palestinian friends (Ms. Suhair, Raneen, George M., Firas, George K., Mariana and Agi) told us about… it is a reality in their daily lives.  To help us understand this reality we will have a replica of the Wall in our school hallway just outside the Sacristy. There will also be posters around the Wall, giving us more information about this Wall. The replica of the Wall will be here the weeks of February 13th thru 25th.Please be sure to stop and see the wall.  Please keep our friends in your prayers that the talks between the Israeli government and the new Palestinian leaders will go well and that peace can finally come to their land.

Our Palestinian guests arrived here September 16th. Hopefully, you have met them at some parish happening. They have told us stories and their great desire for peace in their land. They have spent some time with all our students, K-Grade 8 in school and also with the children in our Sunday morning classes.

Our guests brought pictures of their classmates with a picture of their school with their greetings to our school, parish.

We have learned much about their culture and they have learned about our culture, also they have learned how loving our Assumption parish Community really is. They have visited the Sisters of St. Francis Motherhouse, Oldenburg, Indiana, and Michaela Farm. They have visited LaSalle and McAuley High Schools and shared their story.

They visited the National Underground Railroad. They have had many other experiences with the host families. We are grateful to the host families and every one of you who helped make our guests feel welcome and loved.

We feel all of our lives are enriched for their having been with us.

We ask God’s peace for all our Palestinian guests…we want them to know they will have a place in our hearts always! We will never forget them. Our hearts are joined together.

MAY PEACE BE WITH YOU..

We were very excited about this opportunity to spread the "peace" of Jesus in our small part of the world.  Hoping and praying that the subsequent ripple effect will soften the hearts of all in the conflict to seek peace.
